End To Begin
Ending to begin. Sometimes change comes out of looking back after a journey is complete. When we are walking down a road, especially a perilous one, we often don’t have time or the mobility to keep looking back over our shoulders at what we had encountered. Once we get to the end of the road and finally stop and breathe, we get a chance to see all of it. It’s that glimpse that leads to long lasting change. Beginning again on another new road, perhaps. Yet walking a different way. Let’s look back to go forwards, in body and in spirit.
As the old RuPaul's Drag Race saying goes, "If you don't love yourself, how in the hell you gonna love somebody else?" So wether you are single, coupled, have a few partners, whatever.... in this class we celebrate our most important relationship, the one with ourselves. We will dig down deep to touch ourselves to the very core (if you want to literally do that you will be in the privacy of your own home so live your best life). It's going to be very romantic, trust. The best way to romance yourself? Get as close to yourself as possible! So, we forward fold a bit to go in and then open back up again.
Breakthrough to You
Ahhhh the old adage, sometimes we have to breakdown to breakthrough. It’s true though. A big messy, sloppy breakdown is a release, like opening the pressure valve on your emotions that may have been stuffed down for a little while. There will be openings, some dramatic breath ( Like that yoga guy that was always in class sounding like he was doing something other than yoga next you you;-) , and movement to help you release and let go. And a story about parking.
If you haven’t heard, Paula Abdul is in the building! Why? We have no idea other than that she popped into my head on the beach the other day. BUT DO NOT FEAR…… she reminds us of a very important yogic principal, SATYA. Honesty. Truth. Accountability. How do we access that in our daily lives when it is so easy to lose track of? Let’s start on our 6x2 mat and go from there. Big themes take a little time to flush out.
Slow and Low
We are making slow and chill sexy again. Our bodies naturally want to turn inward during the colder months, ( even if you are in LA or Florida) and it’s hard to bring our 21st Century brains with them. We feel like if we aren’t doing a really challenging practice that we are wasting our time. I invite you to explore the feeling of honey as you move today. Or butter. You know, the sexy foods. Get dramatic and sigh or moan ( you are in your own space so no one will make fun of you after class as the “crazy yoga person”. This class wants to be indulgent and soft. You will see how good it feels! 2 blocks and a strap! Please excuse the large number of times I get up to mute someone! These classes are live, after all!
Inhabit Your Habits
In this class, the goal is to get you to break old habits and create healthier ones for your physical body. It’s not just the habit itself, but also the way in which we show up to it. Mindlessly repeating patterns, good or bad, leads to a life that feels like sleepwalking. If we wake ourselves up by shaking ourselves up, we become more able to identify the habits we actually want to be doing, the ones that bring us joy and make us feel good. Plus, a whole lotta HIP LOVE
If 75 minutes can shift you, what can 24hrs do? A week? A year? When times get hard and it feels like it will never end, it’s the unwavering knowing that it will get better that will make it better. POSI-TATING. Putting your practice into practice. Prepare for a story about shit (yes, actual real shit) and a lot of repetition into crow shapes. There will be modifications for injuries, as always. And many fun options. A shape that is thrown into most practices nonchalantly, but is actually quite scary for a lot of us.
Just Do It
I begin to feel contemplatory about all of the years that have come before where I didn’t makes the changes I wanted to make. Didn’t tell that person what I wanted to really say to the from the heart. Didn’t take the opportunity in my yoga practice to safely try something I have wanted to try. So today’s class is entitled, “JUST DO IT”. Let’s end the guilt cycle. If we prepare and eradicate sometimes warranted fear, the scary things don’t seem that scary after all. Get your your Nikes and get ready to fly.
We Are The Champions
It’s a full circle moment. Hint hint, yes we will be using all 360 degrees of our mat. Become ok with that now. And it’s a lot about the hips. It’s where we hold shit so only appropriate that we release as we talk about where we have come from, where we are going, what we have lost, and what we have gained. we did it, crew. We made it through 2020
