DGY First Anniversary!
WARNING: Zoom issues ahead. Class is still awesome, but expect some breaks to see why zoom kept quitting! I want to thank you all from the very core of me. It’s been a hell of a year together, that’s for sure. Knowing I had you to wake up to on Sunday mornings got me through my breast cancer treatment with so much love and purpose. I became a yoga teacher not only because I believe in the practice, but truly because I believe in the power of connection through movement. Connection creates possibilities and makes the world a better place to be in. And so do each and every one of you. This class is my big thank you to every single one of you. You make my world a better place. NOW LET’S PARTY ( class is going to be suuuuuuper serious, k?)
The buddhist doctrine of impermanence asserts that all of conditioned existence, without exception, is "transient, evanescent, inconstant". Everything goes eventually, so why (Like Boys II Men) is it so hard to say goodbye? In tis class, we look at loss and the opportunity for beginning and possibility. And we mourn my asshole eyelashes. And anything you may have lost in the last asshole year. It's going to be a celebration, not a funeral. A celebration of letting go and welcoming in. And there will be yoga, because.....it's damn good.....
We must loosen up and out of our winter slumber and shake off the stuff that settled in our bodies and froze there. This will be a detoxifying, energetic flow to loosen up the body so we can get you to the peak of class. Think a pose named after a flower….because….Spring. I ask of you, as always, to stay open in your mind and your body and to turn your inner critic to OFF MODE . And turn your inner fire ON! Let’s freaking blossom together
The Birds and The Bees
In this class, it’s all about the birds and the bees and and possibility of newness! We sprung forward last night and lost an hour of sleep but gained light! And light is exactly what we will need to cultivate today to fly! Let’s plant some seeds, spread our wings, an usher in a season of new life!
In this class, we are going to look at how we radiate energy throughout our body while we move in a holistic way. Think big, elongated shapes that will feel like magic in the body. Start asking the question of yourself now, "What am I radiating into the world at this very moment?". And if it’s anything other than good vibes, open receptivity, empathy (continue the list with all that good juju we all need to be spreading), than by the time this class is over we will get you right and tight. In the words of Annie, “We won’t let you leave this house till your floors SHINE like the top of the Chrysler Building”. I paraphrased, but you get the idea.
End To Begin
Ending to begin. Sometimes change comes out of looking back after a journey is complete. When we are walking down a road, especially a perilous one, we often don’t have time or the mobility to keep looking back over our shoulders at what we had encountered. Once we get to the end of the road and finally stop and breathe, we get a chance to see all of it. It’s that glimpse that leads to long lasting change. Beginning again on another new road, perhaps. Yet walking a different way. Let’s look back to go forwards, in body and in spirit.
As the old RuPaul's Drag Race saying goes, "If you don't love yourself, how in the hell you gonna love somebody else?" So wether you are single, coupled, have a few partners, whatever.... in this class we celebrate our most important relationship, the one with ourselves. We will dig down deep to touch ourselves to the very core (if you want to literally do that you will be in the privacy of your own home so live your best life). It's going to be very romantic, trust. The best way to romance yourself? Get as close to yourself as possible! So, we forward fold a bit to go in and then open back up again.
Breakthrough to You
Ahhhh the old adage, sometimes we have to breakdown to breakthrough. It’s true though. A big messy, sloppy breakdown is a release, like opening the pressure valve on your emotions that may have been stuffed down for a little while. There will be openings, some dramatic breath ( Like that yoga guy that was always in class sounding like he was doing something other than yoga next you you;-) , and movement to help you release and let go. And a story about parking.
If you haven’t heard, Paula Abdul is in the building! Why? We have no idea other than that she popped into my head on the beach the other day. BUT DO NOT FEAR…… she reminds us of a very important yogic principal, SATYA. Honesty. Truth. Accountability. How do we access that in our daily lives when it is so easy to lose track of? Let’s start on our 6x2 mat and go from there. Big themes take a little time to flush out.
